What we heard at the 6th Cyber Security Conference in Cyprus

Ilias Polychroniadis, Country Manager for Cyprus and Regional Presales Lead at Neurosoft, spoke at the 6th Cyber Security Conference in Cyprus, where we participated together with our strategic partner Slashopt. His talk focused on a reality we see constantly in the field: most organizations are not careless. They invest in technologies, security tools, policies, certifications and processes. On paper, everything looks fine. But confidence is not the same as security.

Recent incident response experience shows that many attacks still begin from simple, avoidable gaps that were already there and never properly addressed. Not sophisticated intrusions. Basics that were assumed to be covered. AI now acts as a multiplier. It lowers the effort needed to profile, target and attack organizations at scale, which is why the old assumption that "we are too small to be a target" no longer holds.

Three things worth acting on now

Do the basics properly, before the larger programmes finish. Validate continuously. Test your controls instead of trusting that they work. Evaluate your security provider on operational capability, references and evidence, not on proposals and certifications. Across the conference, from NIS2 and DORA to AI-driven threats, the conclusion was consistent. Frameworks set the standard. Resilience is proven when an incident actually happens.
